Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS)
The counselor uses interventions designed to improve the individual's level of functioning as it relates to a mental illness.
These interventions may include: behavior management, relationship skills, communication skills, and problem solving skills. Counselor also provides family assistance,
which includes education and support in coping with the individual's mental health symptoms and management of the individual's behaviors. BHIS services are initiated by an assessment done by a licensed therapist.

Family and Community Support Services
The counselor supports the child and the child's family by helping them develop and implement strategies and
interventions that will improve the child's level of functioning and increase the child and family's social and emotional strength.
In-Home Family Therapy Services
A Master's level therapist provides services to increase the child and family's ability to cope with the effects of serious emotional
disturbance on the family relationships. The goal of in-home family therapy is to maintain a cohesive family unit. The counselor assists the family
in developing coping strategies that will enable the child to continue living within the family environment.
Habilitation Services (HAB)
Habilitation Services consists of individualized services and supports that assist with acquisition, retention,
or improvement in skills related to living in the community. Habilitation Service activities and environments are designed to foster the acquisition of skills,
appropriate behavior, greater independence, and personal choice.In order to participate in Habilitation Services a person must be involved with an Integrated Health Home.
Outpatient Mental Health Therapy
Therapy involves talking with a trained professional about
conditions ranging from depression and anxiety to relationship conflicts and career frustrations. Therapy provides ways to express feelings, understand patterns
of thinking, gain perspective on past events and current relationships, set goals, and clarify dreams for the future.
School Based Therapy at Des Moines Public Schools
Multiple research studies have found that children and adolescents are not receiving necessary mental health services due to services being limited and difficult for families to access.
Providing mental health services in schools increases access to care. Children and families are more likely to access and utilize services when they are being offered at schools. School personnel
refer students to school-based therapy when students' mental health needs affect their daily functioning. Stepping Stone Family Services provides school-based therapy services during the school year
and the summer break. School-based services and length of service is individualized. Each referred student and his/her parent(s) will meet with a therapist from Stepping Stone
Family Services for an assessment. During the assessment, student's needs, strengths and goals are discussed. An individual treatment plan is developed for each student.

Stepping Stone Family Services is a proud partner with Mercy Pediatric Psychology and Neurology.
Stepping Stone will be providing pediatric outpatient therapists at Mercy Pediatric Neurology and Psychiatry Center, 411 Laurel St., Suite 3310 for those receiving Psychiatric Services.

Stepping Stone will be providing adult outpatient therapists at Mercy FirsStep, 1750 48th St., Suite 3.
